Glossary
The words we use when we price technology, in plain language, each linked to where it matters.
- Annual billing
- Paying for a year of seats up front, usually at a lower per-seat price than monthly billing. You can add seats mid-term but rarely remove them. See it in use
- Automation step
- One action in an automation rule: a trigger, condition, action or branch. Atlassian bills steps over your allowance at $0.50 per 1,000. See it in use
- Collaborative inbox
- A Google Groups feature that lets a team assign and close emails sent to one address, at no added cost inside Workspace. See it in use
- Cost per working day
- A hardware price spread over its service life at 220 working days a year. Lets a $300 dock sit next to a $20 subscription. See it in use
- Host charging
- Power a dock sends back to the laptop over the same cable. 140W keeps most 16-inch laptops charged under load. See it in use
- List price
- The price a vendor publishes for anyone to pay, before discounts or sales quotes. Every TechiQuest price is a list price with a date. See it in use
- Loaded hourly cost
- Pay plus overheads such as benefits, payroll tax and equipment, per working hour. TechiQuest uses $65 unless you set your own. See it in use
- Net value
- The value of time returned minus what the tool costs, over the same period. See it in use
- Overage
- Usage beyond what your plan includes, billed on top of seats. Atlassian’s Rovo credits cost $0.01 each over the allowance. See it in use
- Payback period
- How long a purchase takes to return its own cost in time saved, counted in working days. See it in use
- Research score
- A TechiQuest score out of 10 judged on published evidence, not hands-on testing. The plain average of four criteria. See it in use
- Seat
- One named user on a per-user plan. Most SaaS prices are quoted per seat per month. See it in use
- SLA policy
- A response-time target a help desk tracks, such as a first reply within one working day. See it in use
- Thunderbolt 5
- A 120Gb/s connection standard used by the newest docks. Display support still depends on your laptop’s chip. See it in use
- Total cost of ownership
- Everything a tool costs over its life: licence, setup time, training and overage, not just the sticker price. See it in use
- Usage meter
- A charge based on how much you use something, such as AI credits or automation steps, on top of the seat price. See it in use
